Vaidya AI is an advanced medical Large Language Model (LLM) developed by Fractal, an AI firm known for its pioneering work in artificial intelligence. Touted as India's first medical LLM, Vaidya AI is designed to assist in healthcare by providing reliable medical insights, aiding in diagnosis, and offering treatment advice.
Built on open-source models with sizes ranging from 30 to 70 billion parameters, Vaidya AI has been trained on a vast dataset of over 650,000 medical images and 200,000 text inputs. This extensive training enables it to understand and process complex medical information in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu.
Unlike typical AI models that are general-purpose, Vaidya AI is specifically tailored to the medical field. Its training included rigorous evaluation against postgraduate NEET exam questions, achieving an accuracy that ranks it alongside the top 500 candidates in the exam. However, it is important to note that while Vaidya AI provides valuable medical insights, it is not intended to replace healthcare professionals but rather to enhance the quality and accessibility of medical information.
Currently, Vaidya AI remains in the research phase, with ongoing efforts to refine its capabilities before any potential commercial release. The model is part of Fractal’s broader initiative to integrate AI into healthcare, alongside other products like Qure.ai, which assists radiologists in diagnosing conditions like tuberculosis and lung cancer.
Vaidya AI represents a significant step forward in the application of AI in healthcare, particularly in a diverse and multilingual context like India.
