Meta AI on WhatsApp is an integrated AI assistant developed by Meta to enhance the messaging experience by providing advanced AI capabilities. This feature allows users to interact with AI directly within their WhatsApp chats, enabling functionalities similar to those offered by OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's Gemini. Users can ask Meta AI questions, request information, generate text and images, translate languages, and receive suggestions all within their personal or group chats.
To access Meta AI, users need to update their WhatsApp to the latest version. Once updated, a new round purple-blue circle icon appears at the top of the chat interface. By tapping this icon, users can interact with Meta AI, accepting the terms to begin using the service. In chats, users can invoke the AI by typing "@" followed by "Meta AI" and then entering their prompt.
One of the key features of Meta AI is its ability to generate images using text prompts. This feature, known as "Imagine," allows users to create images in real-time as they type, with the images evolving based on the input provided. The generated images are high-quality and can be used for various purposes, although there are some restrictions, such as not generating images of people.
Meta AI is currently being rolled out gradually, starting with users in select countries, including India. It's available only in English and aims to gather user feedback for further improvements. Importantly, while regular WhatsApp messages are end-to-end encrypted, interactions with Meta AI are not, as the data is used for training the AI. However, users can manage their interactions with the AI by deleting individual chats or requesting the deletion of previously shared information.
Meta AI on WhatsApp aims to make the app not just a messaging platform but also a tool for productivity and creativity through its AI capabilities.
