What is Gemini Ultra?

Introducing Google's premium subscription-based AI

February 9, 2024

Gemini Ultra, first announced by Google in December 2023, marked a significant advancement in the realm of generative artificial intelligence. It is part of Google's Gemini suite, which includes three variations: Ultra, Pro, and Nano, each designed for distinct use cases. Gemini Ultra stands out as the most powerful iteration, boasting superior performance on 30 of 32 benchmarks tested, surpassing even human experts on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) assessment. This benchmark evaluates knowledge and problem-solving skills across 57 subjects, ranging from mathematics to ethics.

Gemini Ultra is made accessible to the public through a chatbot named Gemini Advanced, included in the new Google One AI Premium subscription plan. This plan, priced at $20 per month following a two-month free trial, not only makes Gemini Ultra widely available but also signals Google's shift away from the Bard brand towards an integrated approach where AI models are directly accessible to users. Gemini Advanced is expected to be integrated into Google Docs, Gmail, and other applications, enhancing capabilities in coding, logical reasoning, and creative collaboration.

This initiative by Google represents a significant leap forward in making advanced generative AI technologies accessible to a wider audience. The inclusion of Gemini Ultra in the Google One AI Premium subscription underscores Google's commitment to enhancing user experiences with AI, blending sophisticated technological advancements with practical applications across its ecosystem.
